Handling your personal data responsibly matters to me. This notice sets out which data is collected when you visit my website, how I use it and what rights you have.

Processing of personal data

Your data is processed on the basis of the applicable legal provisions, in particular the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You have the right at any time to information, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. You may also object to the processing of your data.

Data collected when you get in touch

If you write to me by email or through a form, the details you provide are stored in order to deal with your enquiry. They are passed on to third parties only where this is necessary to deal with the enquiry or where you have expressly consented.

Hosting (Netlify)

This website is hosted by Netlify, Inc., 44 Montgomery Street, Suite 300, San Francisco, CA 94104, USA. When you open the site, Netlify automatically records technical data in server log files: the page requested, the date and time of access, the volume of data transferred, the IP address and the browser and operating system used. This data is stored for statistical purposes and to keep the site running securely and reliably.

The legal basis is my legitimate interest in the technically sound and secure operation of this website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). As Netlify processes some data in the USA, the transfer relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses. A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place with Netlify, which Netlify makes available for download on its GDPR & CCPA page (External link, opens in a new window). Enquiries sent through forms

The contact form uses Netlify Forms; for the provider, see the Hosting (Netlify) section above. When you submit the form, the details you entered and your IP address are transmitted to Netlify and stored there, so that your enquiry reaches me and so that spam submissions can be recognised.

The processing is based on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, because I am dealing with your enquiry, and on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, because I have a legitimate interest in a working, spam-protected way of being contacted.

Video calls (Jitsi Meet)

For the Accessibility Hour, my open online office hour on digital accessibility, I use the video conferencing service Jitsi Meet on the public server meet.jit.si. The provider is 8x8, Inc., 675 Creekside Way, Campbell, CA 95008, USA.

If you join a meeting through the link shared with you, technical data such as your IP address and information about your device and browser is transmitted to 8x8. You do not need an account or a registration to take part.

The processing is based on your voluntary participation (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) and on my legitimate interest in a straightforward, low-barrier way of talking to people (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). As 8x8 processes some data in the USA, the company is an active participant in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Retention period

I store personal data only for as long as it is needed for the respective purpose or as long as statutory retention obligations apply. It is deleted afterwards.

Data security

I use appropriate technical and organisational security measures to protect your data. This includes in particular encrypted transmission via SSL.

Changes to this notice

This notice is adapted where necessary to reflect legal changes or new features of my website. The current version on this page always applies.

Your rights and contact

You have the right at any time to obtain information about the data I hold about you and to request its rectification or erasure. You may likewise request restriction of processing or object to processing.
